What are custom fields?

They are the user-defined fields that let you add extra information to tasks. They provide maximum flexibility to add or highlight additional details of your tasks in a structured way.

Who can create and edit custom fields?

Project admins can create custom fields. Only the creator and workspace admins can edit or delete existing custom fields.

What’s the difference between private and public custom fields?

  • Private custom fields can only be applied to the project you create it in. You will not be able to add it to other projects.

  • Public custom fields can be used in multiple projects across the Workspace.

NOTE: You can only change a private custom field into a public one but not vice versa.

How to create a custom field:

1 - Open a project.

2 - Click the drop-down next to the “Customize” tab, select Custom fields.

3 - When you click Create a new field, a pop-up window will appear.

4 - You can choose what kind of data the field will hold:

  • Text – for short written inputs.

  • Number – for numeric values.

  • Date – to select dates.

  • Currency – for money values.

  • Dropdown – to select from predefined options.

  • Color Label – to tag items with colors.

  • Link – to add URLs.

  • Formula – to calculate values based on other fields.

5 - Set the permissions: Private or Public.

6 - Hit Create & Apply.

How to edit a custom field:

1 - Open a project.

2 - Click the drop-down next to the “Customize” tab, select Custom fields.

3 - Click on the 3-dot icon and select Edit field - You can only edit the field’s name, not the type of data.

4 - Save changes once done.

How to add an existing custom field to your tasks:

1 - Open a project.

2 - Click the drop-down next to the “Customize” tab, select Custom fields.

3 - Click on the “Add existing public fields”, a pop-up window will appear.

4 - Select one or multiple public custom fields you would like to add to the project, then click Add selected fields.

Remove a custom field from your project:

1 - Open a project.

2 - Click the drop-down next to the “Customize” tab, select Custom fields.

3 - Click on the 3-dot icon and select Remove from this project.

4 - You will be asked to reconfirm the removal.

Delete a custom field permanently:

NOTE: This action will delete the field from all projects and cannot be reverted!

1 - Open a project.

2 - Click the drop-down next to the “Customize” tab, select Custom fields.

3 - Click on the 3-dot icon and click Delete field permanently.

4 - You will be asked to reconfirm the removal.
